Workshops can be delivered on the bus or in the classroom
Rocket Activities and Fly Off
The Rocket Activities and Fly Off are a fun and exciting way to study science. During the workshop students will learn how to construct an aerodynamic and air stable rocket, which they can then enter into the Fly Off finals. The Rocket is constructed by the students from the raw materials of card and sellotape, where the science appears to be a fun challenge. After the successful completion of the rockets, the students have the exciting experience of launch and watching the rockets in the Final Fly Off.
Lego Mindstorm
Lego Mindstorm is a simple way to promote robotics. The core building blocks are Lego blocks which are built into one of a number of designs. The students participate in programming a basic robot to perform simple tasks.
Lego Space Walk
During this workshop students are challenged to communicate effectively to enable another unsighted student to construct a simple structure from a set of Lego building blocks. This would simulate how astronauts sometimes have to work during their ‘Space Walks’ in construction of the International Space Station.
Paper Planes & Gliders
Paper Planes & Gliders takes one of the simplest activities and makes it a fun science activity. During the workshop students will learn how to construct an aerodynamic and air stable Paper Plane/Glider, which they can then enter into the Final Fly Off.
Living & Working in Space
This Workshop is a fantastic opportunity to experience what it is like to live and work in space. After the students have embarked onto the Space Bus they look at the fun of ‘zero gravity’ and see people living and working on the International Space Station about 220 miles above the Earth. They experience how life is very different in a Space Environment compared to here on earth. The students are guided through all these processes by one of our professional space presenters.
Space Food Science Experiments
This workshop looks at how our body processes the food we eat. We take the students through the whole process with real food and models. We then talk about how this process is effected when in space.
Space Codes
Space codes is a great way to have fun with literacy and numeracy. We have developed a workshop to use codes set in a space context, where the students have to crack the codes being sent back from the International Space Station, and then develop their own coding system.
